Commis Chef Apprenticeship Scheme
Do you have the passion for food? We are looking for an enthusiastic, hard-working person to join our friendly, talented team of chefs in our kitchen at our award-winning restaurant. Gain your qualification whilst earning a wage and tips as you learn to prepare exciting dishes using quality fresh seasonal ingredients.
Work Schedule:
Wednesday to Saturday; split shifts (lunchtimes and evenings) Sunday: extended lunch shift (with Sunday evenings off)
Christmas Day, Boxing Day & New Year’s Day off
Apprenticeship Details:
Apprenticeship duration: 12 months
Apprenticeship level: Intermediate Level 2 (GCSE)
Job Type: Full-time / Salary: £6.50-£10.50 per hour (depending on age) + tips.
Minimum age 16 years. Must have English & Math GCSE (Grade C+ or equivalent)
Training as a commis chef, working towards a level 2 qualification, you’ll be involved in all aspects of the daily kitchen routine.
Working as a commis chef is a great way of getting started in a kitchen; while it’s the most junior culinary role, it provides a means of learning a range of key skills on the job. A commis chef prepares food and carries out basic cooking tasks under the supervision of a more senior chef.
Initially, you’ll work closely with other chefs to help build your confidence within a new environment and to ensure your safety, as you become confident in your abilities and using your new found skills you’ll begin to run your own areas within the kitchen.
Duties will include:
- Take part in food safety training in line with current legislation
- Supporting senior chefs
- Prepare ingredients
- Cook fresh ingredients using various different cooking methods & techniques
- Plating and presentation of food
- Portion & stock control
Training & Final Qualification
Commis Chef level 2.
English and maths qualifications form a mandatory part of all apprenticeships and must be completed before an apprentice can pass through gateway.
As an apprentice commis chef, you will learn in different ways, from online learning, practical learning on site with your peers, as well as having a one to one tutor who will support you through your apprenticeship with Performance Learning Group.
Completion of Apprenticeship
Each month, you will learn something new and after 12 months, you’ll be a fully qualified and experienced commis chef!
A full-time chef position at The Birch will be available to you on completion.
